How to Create an Arnold Look-dev HDA with Houdini Python?


In this we will be demonstrating Arnold look-dev rig HDA which is a custom HDA made (otls). This tool can be used professionally in studio environment for standard process and with better and quick output lighting look-dev workflow.



Brief Thought :

A friendly and standard way for Look-development in Arnold Houdini, where you can easily connect your Asset, set your desired camera view with custom HDRI. Here you can easily

tweak parameters as per needs and can be useful for personal / professional conduct.


Details :

  • Frame / Fit the Asset to the Look-dev Camera.

  • Rotation Transform of Camera and Light as per the custom frame range set.

  • Rotation Isolation of Light and Camera option.

  • Integration of Macbeth & Ref. Spheres with option to change layout or position.

  • Incorporated ground with shadow catcher.

  • Arnold ROP setup with AOVs, render-camera , force objects/lights and providing the edit for render output path.


Section-wise breakup :

1. Set Geo Path and Asset to fit in look-dev Camera.

2. Set Turntable frame, isolate light/camera.

3. Camera transforms like orientation, tilt, zoom and pan.

4. Look-dev camera and Arnold ROP.

5. Macbeth and Ref. Spheres layout and position.
